Elysium Rules

Hey
you! Yes, you.

These few pages contain some important information about the server
for your ease of reference and access! Feel free to suggest it to us on our
Discord Server if there's more that you feel might be worth adding here!

In regard to our actual server rules, we've actually got a full rulebook below with
more detailed explanations of the rationale behind many of our rules. If you are
one of the hardworking ones, please do check out our full rulebooks below😊

Server Rules Summary
Hi all! Just emphasising that this section is only a summary of our full rules,
which you'll be able to find here! We strongly encourage you to at least have
a skim over it, as ignorance is not an excuse for rulebreaking!

1) No Griefing / Raiding 🔥
Don't change, break or take items from builds that aren't yours! If you're not sure, don't touch it!

2) Be Respectful 💜
Be nice to everyone, and don't treat the server chat as your rant pillow!

3) No Advertising 🪧
Just talking about servers is fine! If you really want to advertise, do it in private and with consent.

4) Play fair - Allowed Mods 🤖
Don't hack. I'm pretty sure you know what that means.

5) Play fair - Exploits 😈
Found an exploit, or a questionable feature? Report it and help us keep Elysium fun.

6) English Only 🔤
Please speak English only in the public chat!

7) World Stewardship 🏞️
Let's keep the world pretty. It's a community effort, and we're all in this together.

Punishment: Breaking any of these rules may result in either a mute or temporary ban!
Read the full rule document for more information on the rules!

Performance Suggestions

We strongly encourage you read through and consider following
our advice in this section! Doing so will help with the performance
of both your client-side gameplay, and reduce server-side lag!

View Distance 🏞️

We strongly encourage all of our players to use Fabric to install Bobby, and if you use an Nvidia GPU, Nvidium.

  • Bobby allows you to increase your view-distance beyond the server limit; and
  • Nvidium boosts your performance significantly more than even mods like Optifine or Sodium.

Even if you do not intend to have an insane view-distance, downloading it will still significantly help with our server-side chunk rendering. So it's a win-win!

Just to give you an idea, Bobby allows you to do something like this:

Optimisation

This section contains information on our changes to vanilla
Minecraft redstone & mob-spawning in an effort to optimise the server!
This section has been created for your reference as a resource for
when you're building redstone contraptions or mob farms!

Mob Spawning 🧌

As part of our optimisation efforts for the server, we have made some slight changes to mob-spawning rules. We've listed them below!

  • View Distance is set to 12 chunks;
  • Simulation Distance is set to 6 chunks;
  • Monster Limits have been lowered from 70 -> 49;
  • Mob Spawn Range has been lowered from 8 -> 6;
  • Hard Despawn Range has been lowered from 128 -> 96; and
  • Ticks Per Monster Spawn has been raised from 1 -> 20.

We've done the maths to ensure mob density to still feel like vanilla, so most farms should still work as long as you adjust the size of your farm!

To summarise, don't build your farms larger than 96 blocks! Anything larger will simply not work.

In addition, we do have a limiter plugin which caps the number of mobs that are allowed near each other. The following mobs will despawn if there are more than:

  • 50 villagers per 3 blocks;
  • 25 cows / sheep / chicken / pig per 3 blocks; and
  • 10 zombies / skeletons / spiders / cave-spiders / creepers per 1 block.

So try to spread your farms out a little, for both your farms' and the server's sake

Redstone 🏗️

Aside from mob-spawning, we have also made some slight changes to how redstone works:

  • Just to clarify we have made NO changes to hopper behaviour; but
  • Redstone now behaves in line with Alternate Current, click the link for more information!

Just to summarise, Alternate Current is NOT significantly different from vanilla behaviour, but it will break on very technical redstone. So as long as you're not Sethbling or MumboJumbo, it should work fine for your machines!

Nevertheless, we strongly encourage any and all redstone engineers we may have on the server to keep your machines efficient. This is for the good of both the server's health itself, as well as everyone playing on it. Please be considerate and keep your machines as small and lagless as possible!

Town Guidelines

We consider towns to be the centre of server culture, player interaction
and where daily happenings become ingrained in server lore and history.

To maximise this experience, we have come up with this list of guidelines
to raise the quality of official server towns. Meeting these requirements
make your town more likely to be accepted! Nothing here is mandatory!

Backstory 📜
Each town must have its own unique backstory. Think about:

  • How did it come to be?
  • Does it have a unique culture?

Build Style 🏯
Every building in a town must have a constistent build style. Now that you have a backstory, would the style be informed by the town's history? Think about:

  • Is it inspired by real-life or fantasy architecture?
  • Is the palette informed by the town location, i.e. near mountains, a taiga, etc?

Roads 🛣️
Wouldn't it be amazing if you could just walk to every town on the server? Any roads built to connect towns will be protected by an adminclaim, at no cost to the builders!

Mayor 👑
Every town should have a leader that takes charge of its development! A Mayor would be ideal so us staff know who to talk to, but a council or multi-player leadership structure works too!

Districts 🏞️
Every Minecraft player wants a large base and lots of space to operate - yet living in towns often mean being cramped into a small house alongside others.

To fix this, we'd suggest just assign each player a district of their own, to build as many houses in as they want, or to just make a massive castle in! To make sure a town is of decent size, having a minimum of 3 districts is recommended!

Villagers
Since each player governs a district, we should bring in some residents! We recommend each district to have at least 5 villagers, each with their own house, flat, apartment or even just a bunker, so the town looks more lively! Trading halls are fine, but we don't count those tiny booths as houses.

Architect 👷
We all love pretty towns, but not everyone knows how to build well. Having someone in the town with a build rank from Pollo to advise on, and help beautify builds, would be a step in the right direction!
